Classroom

I can't believe September is coming to a close! We have been working hard in the music room, but having some fun too. Grade 1 students are learning about their speaking, singing, whispering, and yelling voices and how to use them high and low. Grade 2 students are learning about high and low sounds too. They are also learning to tell the difference between the beat and the sound of the words.
Grade 3 students are learning about time signatures and how beats are grouped. They are playing some fun games at the same time. Grade 4 students are learning how to read rhythms and are learning how to read and sing in solfeg. A difficult task, I assure you, but they seem up for it.
In the full day kindergarten class, we are doing finger plays, songs, and movement. We are learning how to sing with the guitar and the piano. There are lots of great things going on in the music room at South Elementary!

_________________________________________________________________________________How did it get to be the beginning of November????? Oh my! Each grade sang some songs for halloween and grades 3 and 4 both listened to some spooky music. Grade 3 heard "The Banshee" by Henry Cowell and grade 4 heard "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens. All grades are continuing to learn about reading music. We are working on reading rhythms and pitches. As we head into November, we are singing songs about Harvest and being thankful. The first graders sing "Many Things I am Thankful For" and can tell 3 things they are thankful for in the song. We've also been singing and playing instruments in all grades. The full day kindergarten students are doing a fantastic job singing about apples, turkeys, pumpkins, ect.

Oh, boy! December is quickly disappearing! We have been busy learning about music through different holiday songs of the season and we have focused our listening activities on selections from The Nutcracker ballet. A seasonal favorite! After our break we will continue with many exciting activities. Have a great holiday!
